Company Description

The Laboratory of Circuits & Systems (LCAS) out of the University of Utah has developed mmWave devices utilizing heterojunction bipolar transistors (HBTs) with demonstrated functionality in the mid-30GHz range. Using novel techniques which enable wideband designs with low phase noise, the lab is building a portfolio of IP and design enablement kits for the communications industry. The team, made up of experts in advanced semiconductor manufacturing and design, is planning to form a company to support this work in the near future.

Job Description

The LCAS team is seeking an experienced semiconductor entrepreneur with a background in commercialization, product management, and marketing of semiconductors for communications. They will be expected to work closely with the co-founders to conduct market research, customer discovery, supply chain evaluation, and other work in support of the new company formation.  This work will include identifying and interviewing prospective stakeholders, creating a detailed IP landscape, engaging potential customers to determine a minimally viable first product, creating a commercialization plan, and proposing a financing strategy. Due to the highly technical nature of the subject matter, demonstrated knowledge of managing IP products within the industry is also a requirement.

The individual should have the following qualifications:

  • Expertise and a strong network within the semiconductor and communications industry
  • Deep understanding of the foundry business model and ecosystem
  • Knowledge of the semiconductor IP licensing business model and physical IP licensing
  • Experience with EDA tools and the EDA market
  • Experience in fundraising is a plus

This is a contract consulting position that is remote-friendly with the possibility of on-site work. This is an opportunity to join the team early and have a role in shaping the formation of a new company with the potential to join the leadership team in the future.
